Find the right keywords to hit your targeted audience

Keyword Research and Analysis Service — Finding and applying the right targeted keywords is the first and most important step in building a solid SEO foundation for your pages. The two main factors in targeted keyword research are competitiveness and keyword search volume. We’ll help you find a happy medium between these two factors. Then you can target a converting crowd and achieve your SEO goals more efficiently.

How we perform our keyword research and competitive analysis

Find your competitors’ keywords — If your competitors are ranking high in the search engine, it’s probably because they performed extensive keyword research. Since they already utilized keyword research, we might as well see what they have to offer. Sometimes this is a great way to find good long tail keywords.

Search for related keywords — We have very powerful keyword research tools. They help us find effective and highly relevant long tail and short tail keywords for your web pages.

How we analyze the top keywords via the research process

Step 1

We calculate the KEI for each keyword — KEI stands for Keyword Effectiveness Index. It measures how effective a keyword can be for your website. It’s a formula that compares the number of searches for a keyword (popularity) with the number of search results (competitiveness). This can identify which keywords are the most effective for your site. The higher the KEI value, the more popular the keywords are and the less competitive they should be.

We use this method to narrow the keyword list down to the top related keywords that should be the most effective for your site.

Step 2

See how competitive these top keywords really are — We take the top keywords and individually check them to see how many backlinks the Top 10 websites have on Google, Yahoo and Bing. Usually the less backlinks the top ten websites have. The easier it is to rank for. This is a great way to find exactly how competitive keywords are and what keywords are right for your website.

We will ask you, on a scale of 1 to 5 (with 5 being the most competitive),  how competitive you want to be for the particular page you want analyzed.

The #1 mistake in Search Engine Optimization comes from keyword selection.

Many webmasters and website owners think they already know the best keyword for their websites. If they haven’t done some research, unfortunately they are usually wrong. If you target the wrong keyword, you will lose a lot of time and you will lose a lot of sales. You will invest a lot of time in optimizing your web pages for keywords in which your website cannot get high rankings at the moment, Or you will invest a lot of time in optimizing your web page for keywords that don’t convert well to your customers. It is very important that you choose the right keywords that lead to high search engine rankings and sales.

As you probably already know, there are 2 different keyword types in keyword marketing.

Short tail keywords: more competitive but bring more search results — Normally, onpage ranking factors will not be enough to rank high for these keywords. You will also have to work hard on the offpage factors and build a lot of quality links to your web page for the search engine to recognize you and rank your page above your competitors. Short tail keywords are also known as broad keywords. They are considered to be less targeted than long tail keywords. Examples: web hosting, diet plan, video games, gardening tools.

Long tail keywords: less competitive but bring less search results — If the right keywords are applied, long tail keywords can be a lot easier to rank than short tail keywords. You can normally achieve Top 10 search engine ranking with good onpage factors and less link popularity. These types of keywords are considered more specific and targeted keywords. But they tend to return less search popularity. Examples: Michigan web hosting, cheap weight loss diet plan, Playstation 3 action video games, children’s gardening tools.

Recommended strategy

At RankFast.net, we feel that it makes the most sense to optimize your website in this format

Home page — Semi-short tail or fairly competitive search term. It seems to build a broader and more populated search term for the home page. It is also easier to build quality links to your home pages rather than to your internal sub-pages. A lot of online directories and link exchange partners will only accept your home page as a valid link.

Internal sub-pages — Longer tail or less competitive search terms. If you have a lot of pages on your website, you can focus on optimizing the more important pages with less competitive search phrases. If your website is about fishing, for example, target each keyword for the particular products on that sub-page. Examples: floating Rapala lures, 30-lb. thrust Min Kotta trolling motor, Hummingbird 330 portable fish finder.
